What Is Rally Obedience?
Rally Obedience is a dog sport where you and your dog work together through a numbered course of signs, each asking you to perform a different exercise.
Unlike traditional competitive obedience, Rally encourages you to communicate with and praise your dog as you work through the course. It's a lovely way to develop your partnership while learning new skills and having fun together.
You don't need any previous Rally experience to get started. Dogs joining a beginners class should already have some basic foundation training.

How It Works
What Happens in a Rally Obedience Class?
Rally is all about teamwork. You and your dog work your way around a course of numbered signs, each giving you a different exercise to complete together.
From simple turns and changes of pace to more challenging exercises as your skills develop, every class offers something new to learn and enjoy.

Learn the Exercises.
Start by learning individual Rally signs and the skills needed to complete them. We'll build your dog's understanding and your handling skills through clear, reward-based training.

Put It All Together.
As your confidence grows, we'll link exercises into short sequences and complete Rally courses, developing communication, accuracy and teamwork along the way.

What is included in you Rally Obedience Membership
Rally is an ongoing learning experience, with new exercises, challenges and opportunities to develop your skills as you progress. Your monthly membership gives you regular training and support in a friendly, small-group environment.
Weekly Rally Classes
Enjoy regular, instructor-led training sessions where you and your dog can learn new exercises, practise Rally courses and build your skills together.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does my dog need any previous Rally experience?
Not at all! You and your dog don't need to have tried Rally before. However, some basic foundation training is important, as you'll be building on skills such as walking together, responding to cues and maintaining focus around other dogs.
Is Rally Obedience suitable for all dogs?
Rally can be enjoyed by dogs of many different breeds, sizes and ages. Exercises can be introduced gradually, allowing you and your dog to develop your skills at a comfortable pace.

Do I have to compete in Rally?
Absolutely not! Many owners enjoy Rally simply as a fun weekly activity with their dogs. If you decide you'd like to explore competitions, I can help you develop the skills and confidence to work towards that goal.
Can I join the class at any time?
Rally is an ongoing weekly class rather than a course with a fixed start date. New members can join when spaces are available, provided the class is suitable for their dog's current training level.
What should I bring to class?
Bring your dog on a comfortable collar or harness and lead, plenty of small, tasty training treats and a favourite toy if your dog enjoys playing. You'll also want suitable footwear and clothing for training outdoors.
Where and when are Rally classes held?
Rally classes take place on Tuesdays from 11:15 am to 12:15 pm at Milborne St Andrew Sports & Recreation Ground, near Blandford Forum in Dorset.
Classes are kept small, with a maximum of four dog-and-handler teams, and membership costs £90 per calendar month.

MEET Your Instructor
My dog training journey began in 1994 when I welcomed Dali, a Shetland Sheepdog, into my life. The challenges we faced together sparked a lifelong passion for understanding canine behaviour and helping dogs and their people build better relationships.
Dali also introduced me to competitive obedience. I continued competing with Shadow and, later, with Seina, I discovered Rally Obedience — a sport that combines the skills I loved in traditional obedience with a wonderful emphasis on communication and teamwork.
I've been teaching Rally Obedience in Dorset for over ten years and was the first trainer in the area to offer it. What I love about Rally is how it brings dogs and their owners together through shared challenges, teamwork and a genuine sense of achievement.
My Fun | Focus | Play® approach combines positive, science-based training with clear instruction and plenty of encouragement. Whether you're completely new to Rally or looking to develop your skills further, I'm here to help you and your dog enjoy the journey together.
For me, Rally isn't just about completing a course correctly. It's about developing a partnership, celebrating progress and having fun along the way.
